Care of plastic molds: Clean your mold in warm water (do not place in a dishwasher) until all residue has been rinsed away. When using essential and fragrance oils in your mold, use only light amounts as they have a tendency to cause small pot holes in plastic products if used in excess. If any essential or fragrance oil spills on the mold full strength--wash off immediately.
Care of silicone molds: Wash with warm soap and water after each use. Our silicone molds are constructed of the finest silicone material available. They will withstand high temperatures, are tear resistant, and with proper care will last for hundreds of castings. Great for soap, candles, or other casting mediums, however, they are NOT for use with food.
How to un-mold Melt & Pour Soaps: Cut away any over pour before unmolding to ease in the release. Melt & Pour soaps should be left in the molds for at least 4 hours, then invert and apply light pressure and they should slide out. If not, leave them in the mold another hour and check again. The longer they are left in the molds, the easier they will release. Please, do not pry, pull, pound, mash, maul, etc. on the molds or they may be damaged.
How to un-mold Cold Process and Hot Process Soaps: Cut away any over pour before unmolding to ease in the release. Soaps should be left in the molds for at least 24 hours, then invert and apply light pressure and they should slide out. If not, leave them in the mold another twelve hours and check again. The longer they are left in the molds, the easier they will release. Please, do not pry, pull, pound, mash, maul, etc. on the molds or they may be damaged.
Mold prep: Depending upon the product you are molding it may be necessary to prep your mold with a release agent. For soaps I recommend using a foam brush or sponge lightly dabbed with oil and wiping the inside of the mold. Then use a fresh foam brush or sponge to remove any remaining oil residue.
Temperatures: As with all plastic products you should be aware of the temperatures you are exposing your mold to in order to avoid damage. We recommend not going over 140F on pouring temperature of the product you are molding. Freezing causes stress to the plastic and may decrease the life of the mold, however if you find it necessary to freeze the mold the product should be at room temperature before placing in freezer and let it return to room temperature before unmolding your product.
Coloring tips for soapmakers: To make a two color soap add your first color using an icing bag or medicine dropper into the section of the cavity for that color. When pouring your second color pour slowly into a section of the cavity that does not yet contain any soap and let it run gently into the rest of the mold and over the first color. You may also use a soft bristled paint brush to lightly “paint” an area of the design.
